About this guide

A no-nonsense answer to a dumb question I kept having: which of these bottles and boxes do I actually need, and which are a waste?

How to read it

Best for / Avoid on

Every product lists the loads it's great for and the fabrics it'll quietly ruin. If you only read two lines, read those.

Confidence badge

"High / medium / low confidence" tells you how solid the evidence is. Low usually means "sounds right, but nobody's run a proper test."

Contested flags

When a popular claim doesn't hold up, it's called out instead of quietly repeated.

Sources

Claims link out to the real thing — research papers, safety bodies, independent tests — not brand marketing. Source quality is badged so you can tell them apart.

Source quality: Peer-reviewed Standards / Govt Independent test Industry / Manufacturer Reference
